(Story about Kindness & Compassion)

Few years back when I was in the college, was appointed as intern in one of the department. Each day is allotted to all the respective doctors for the OPD. Next morning, I joined with the zeal and came to know that today accounts my turn. I have to deal with the patients the moment they stepped into the department, need to ask about their present illness, make a diagnosis out of it and lastly allot the case for further treatments.

Was dealing with my profession with enthusiasm, and never knew when my half of the day was passed. After the recess when I came back, I saw an old lady around 70 yrs (I don’t remember exactly) was eagerly waiting outside the clinic. The moment I saw her I called her inside, have a seat mataji, I requested her firstly. 'Let me know what happen to you?' gently, I asked her.

She took her time with the glint in her eyes and somehow she gathered the strength and uttered, beta I don’t have money to afford the treatment. My son and his wife are so selfish; they are not giving me a single penny for the medicaments. "Beta.. What should I do?" Her statement shook me for a while and inarticulated me in and out like never before. She was dealing with the agony but that moment I was feeling inferior. More than her I was anxious, actually felt the BUTTERFLIES IN MY TUMMY.

That jiff I was dealing with the perfect amalgamation of anger and emotion in my head. Without a second thought, all my friends and I declared that we will take care of her treatment till the end without asking any kind of amount. That day mankind won, hope survived and prognosis rocked.

Whenever I have glimpse about this incident, can relate very well to the well said maxim “BUTTERFLIES IN MY TUMMY”.

“That day will always memorable in my life,

We all have the strength to make someone smile”.

Think about it!!
