Lovegrass Won't Create Forest

When I realised --

Japanese lovegrass is just grass.

Only about the length

Of a schoolchild's ruler.

Not tall, not short.

But never going to grow

taller and slender

like the Nilgiri tree--

It's bark peeling

to reveal smooth skin beneath,

It's leaves ,

carrying the front of medicine.

I had an epiphany

That a breath's length

is never going to make it

to a breathless reach.
