Two Old Friends

I was too old to walk

Far too big in my own house

Yet a smile was ever-present on my face

I bought a muffin for my best friend

Since the world was too big for him

He sat on the steps of an old cathedral

Looking sick and pale

With dirty clothes and old bags

Ones that he gathered for no reason

And yet he had a smile

The only thing ever-present

He tried to speak with everyone

That same smile on his face

Yet no one responded

Being shunned a basic normal

And thus he waited for me

Waited for the only one who replied to him

I brought the muffin to him

On foot through the entire citywide

All for his smile

As I cut the muffin on his birthday

Celebrating our smiles

Just one more time
